Growing higher within Chicago, Illinois, DeYoung's career as a vocalist began sustaining a band Tradewinds in 1963. A band renamed itself TW4 within 1968 before becoming Styx in 1970. In Styx he acted when lead singer, keyboardist, & co-writer of several of the band's songs.

In January 18 1970 he married his wife Suzanne. A few keep close at h& remained together since, and stand ii toddlers.

Inside 1984 DeYoung embarked upon a solo career of mild profits. He participated inside two a 1990 and 1995 Styx revivals.
